A regular monthly meeting of the Town of New Hope Board of Aldermen/Town Council was held on Tues., April 24, 2007 in the New Hope Town Hall. It was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Mayor Johnny Hamm. Also present were Ald. Pat Monson, Ald. Bill Sommers, and Mayor Pro Tem (MPT) Roger Wilson, Ald. Jeff Herbst, and Atty. John Rapier. Consent items: Minutes of the 27 March 2007 Town Council meeting minutes were approved by general consent. The Treasurer's Report was given by Pat Monson for 27 March 2007 and was approved by general consent. Discussion followed concerning Park and Planning forms for filing and reimbursement of park funds.
Item 1. Item discussion was deferred to follow Item 4 on Agenda. Item 2. A request was made by a New Hope citizen to rezone his 5-acre lot from residual to general business. Public notice would be posted 8 May 2007, and a mailing notice would be sent to adjacent owners. The second public hearing would be held just before the next schedule New Hope Town Council meeting. Also the Planning and Zoning Commission will be requesting a change to the Ordinance so that existing residential homes have special permitted use in areas zoned for business. General discussion followed concerning possible business uses for this land.
Item 3. Junk Car Violation letters will be issued this month (68 letters). The Town Hall phone system will have a mail box to store messages to handle any phone calls concerning this issue. Tentative meeting dates: May 22 for Roads & Parks, 24 May for Planning and Zoning, and May 29 for Town Council. Item 1: The Public Works Commission has received several bids for groundbreaking for the Town Park. The existing funds will be allocated to clearing land, contouring, and for sidewalks. Discussion followed concerning use of these funds and reimbursement to ensure groundwork and landscaping to minimize erosion. Citizen comments: Roger Wilson announced he will be resigning Town Council possible this summer as he will be moving from the Texas area. Mayor Hamm will be attending a local governmental meeting concerning future park grants. Duke Monson commented on upcoming events involving new water pipes being placed along 1827 and the possibility of a new water tower being built north of New Hope on 1827. Discussion followed concerning fire protection fire hydrants, the possibility of a new water tower, and community block grants that can fund water and water drainage projects.
